Welcome!! You have entered a space where all people are invited to gather to discuss matters of Spirituality, in mutual respect and friendliness: "Considering...Spirituality." As this was a WW board, we also discuss our personal wellness, including our weight management program. We share our struggles and our triumphs regarding such as well as discuss things like family, friends, jobs, hobbies, outside interests, etc... We strive to build each other up with loving support in a positive manner. Let us not ever tear one another down in any way, shape or form.

The topic can be inspired by your personal faith, but please do remember that anyone from other spiritual paths should be able to answer it.

Friendship is more than a social connection in the Jewish context. Friends offer each other help, loyalty, protection, support, unselfish love, and moral guidance. Judaism defines friendship as one of the primary relationships in life, a tie at times exceeding that which bonds blood relatives.

Biblical Friendship

One of the most famous friendships of the Bible, that between David and Jonathan, was sealed by a vow promising eternal amity between their children (I Samuel 20:42). Jonathan saved David from the murderous intentions of his father, King Saul, despite the fact that David was a threat to his own inheritance of the kingship. Similarly, the Moabite Ruth literally left her people behind in choosing to accompany Naomi (her Israelite mother-in-law) to the land of Israel.

q/q: What attributes do you look for in a friend? How do you choose your friends? What do you do when you find out someone you thought was your friend does something you absolutely do NOT want in a friend?

Obviously my gf meets the definition of such a friend. A true friend will tell you the truth even if the truth hurts at first. A true friend wants you to be your best self. From James 4:4 -

know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Fair weather friends are only there at their convenience. A true friend will see a need and meet that need even if it's inconvenient for them. I sometimes wonder what my gf sees in me. She has given me much more than I have given her.

How do I choose my friends? I usually don't; they choose me, although I did make first contact with my gf when she sent out a request for LDS penpals shortly after she joined the church. Little did I know then that her spirituality far exceeded mine.

I have learned the hard way it is best to sever relationships that become toxic.

I bit the bullet and bought a 2006 Buick Lacrosse yesterday. I kept the Park Avenue to sell either to a family member or someone in the church, so I now have 2 cars parked in my driveway. I paid cash but closed out my savings accounts to do so. My Social Security should provide the financial cushion my savings accounts provided. Good thing I had the new car. I dropped my keys to the Park Avenue into a crack between my ramp and the house and I will have to try to dig them out with a rake or something.
