Welcome!!! You have entered a space where all people are invited to gather to discuss matters of Spirituality, in mutual respect and friendliness: "Considering...Spirituality." Here, the focus is on personal spirituality and not dogma. We welcome with open arms people from any, all, and no religious/faith backgrounds, and those who practice spirituality on their own, to join us for a discussion centered on a higher consciousness. Each day there will be a quote, question, or discussion prompt presented for all to ponder and respond to.
**In maintaining an atmosphere of comfort and trust, we do not allow proselytizing (the effort of trying to convert others) or the denigrating of the religions and viewpoints of others. We also avoid bringing up topics such as politics, hot button social issues, or anything that can be considered divisive**
As this was a WW board, we also discuss our personal wellness, including our weight management program. We share our struggles and our triumphs regarding such as well as discuss things like family, friends, jobs, hobbies, outside interests, etc... We strive to build each other up with loving support in a positive manner. Let us not ever tear one another down in any way, shape or form.
Regular thread starters for the time being are:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: Gary / Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: Holly
Yet if anyone is so inclined, please feel free to start a new thread by beginning with the title: "Considering....(topic -q/q)", post this introduction (by way of copy & paste) then follow that with a post putting forth a question and/or quote (with or without some explanation) for us to ponder today. The topic can be inspired by your personal faith, but please do remember that anyone from other spiritual paths should be able to answer it.
Shalom, Love & Light, Blessed Be, Namaste...

Gary, I want to respond to your topic from yesterday, but cannot right now. Also, regarding the thread posted for 9/30-10/1 with the two advertisement posts, there is now a third one (same information, new person's name). I reported all three. If you look to the far right on the blue line, there's a symbol like a wheel; if you hover over the down arrow (or maybe you have to click on the down arrow), there are four options, one of which is "report this post" or something like that. Please report each of the three, asking the administration to delete them. Maybe the administrators of this board will.
It's now close to 11 pm Wednesday night and I'm bushed. I'll be back in the morning to post a q/q for Thursday, and maybe then can post a response to your Wednesday q/q.

Thanks, Gary.
I don’t have enough time right now to respond to the q/q from Wednesday, nor do I have enough time right now to introduce the topic I really wanted to talk about today. I’ll do my best to put both of them together later, and post the first as soon as I can, and post the second as tomorrow’s topic.
Meanwhile, this week, other than during the Holy Days (which have their own special selections), we’re reading Deuteronomy 32:1–52. In this Torah portion, Moses’ last words to the Children of Israel, he recites a song to them that serves as testimony of their covenant with God. God tells Moses to head up Mount Nebo to find his final resting place.
In the Torah scroll, it’s very clear that this is a poem or a song, in that it’s written in two narrow-ish columns, with each left and right margin’s looking equal. Moreover, in most Jewish-published translations, the same is true. I have no idea what it looks like in other translations; maybe one of you will tell me.
q/q: (1) What’s your interpretation of what God means when saying the song will be a “witness? Against the people? Would you consider it a “witness” today? If so, how? (2) How would you describe the “children of Israel” from this song? Do you think of yourself (or Jews) the same way today? If so, in what ways? (3) Can you describe how this song perceives “God”? Do you think people perceive God the same way today? In what ways yes and in what ways no?

First I took my car back into the shop this morning. The service engine light came on AGAIN less than a month after I had paid $739 to get it fixed. Well, this time it's the fuel pump that came up in the analysis and they have to order it in so I won't get my car back until tomorrow. Good thing I have today and tomorrow off.
I think I'll work on the laundry and house cleaning today and respond to this as well as the new topic when you get to it.

Bummer about the fuel pump...
About yesterday's q/q: Regarding the concept of the "fence," the Torah says not to cook a young sheep in its mother's milk. The "fence" says not to mix any dairy product with any meat product (including poultry, but not fish; fish is considered "neutral," neither dairy nor meat). For many years, I said, "If you can show me any chicken (or other poultry) that CAN be cooked in its mother's milk, I'll keep the kosher laws and not mix dairy with poultry." Then someone pointed out to me that during the Middle Ages, poultry was not quite as "white" as it currently is. Rather, the "meat" of the chicken (or other poultry) was more "gamey" than today's chickens, so it you saw cooked "meat" of a chicken (not up close), you might not be able to determine whether it was poultry or beef or lamb (etc.). That's when I stopped mixing dairy with poultry (I had stopped eating the meat of four-legged animals years and years before I considered adhering to the Jewish dietary laws).
There are other "fences" in Judaism, but the dietary ones spring almost immediately to mind. I think part of the reason I separate dairy from poultry is to keep alive through my generation the idea of not mixing any dairy with any meat (including poultry) as it was kept alive for the previous thousand (or so) years...

I read this section from the KJV of Deuteronomy. Old Testament language is not easy for me to follow or understand. Here is the chapter heading from our copy of the KJV on LDS.org. These chapter headings were written by one of our Apostles, Bruce R. McConkie:
Israel will sing the song of Moses and acclaim: God speaks to heaven and earth; the children of Israel were known in the premortal life; God chose them in this life; they forgot the Rock of their salvation; He sent terror, a sword, and vengeance upon them; there is no God beside Him—Moses will be gathered to his people.
I'm not dodging the questions. I just don't know how to answer them based upon the version of the scriptures I am using.
