Welcome!! You have entered a space where all people are invited to gather to discuss matters of Spirituality, in mutual respect and friendliness: "Considering...Spirituality." Here, the focus is on personal spirituality and not dogma. We welcome with open arms people from any, all, and no religious/faith backgrounds, and those who practice spirituality on their own, to join us for a discussion centered on a higher consciousness. Each day there will be a quote, question, or discussion prompt presented for all to ponder and respond to.
**In maintaining an atmosphere of comfort and trust, we do not allow proselytizing (the effort of trying to convert others) or the denigrating of the religions and viewpoints of others. We also avoid bringing up topics such as politics, hot button social issues, or anything that can be considered divisive**
As this was a WW board, we also discuss our personal wellness, including our weight management program. We share our struggles and our triumphs regarding such as well as discuss things like family, friends, jobs, hobbies, outside interests, etc... We strive to build each other up with loving support in a positive manner. Let us not ever tear one another down in any way, shape or form.
Regular thread starters for the time being are:
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday: Gary
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: Holly
Yet if anyone is so inclined, please feel free to start a new thread by beginning with the title: "Considering ... (topic)," post this introduction (by way of copy & paste) then follow that with a post putting forth a question and/or quote (with or without some explanation) for us to ponder today. The topic can be inspired by your personal faith, but please do remember that anyone from other spiritual paths should be able to answer it.
Shalom, Love & Light, Blessed Be, Namaste...

This week, we start the last of the Five Books of Moses by reading Deuteronomy 1:1–3:22, in which Moses recounts to the Israelites episodes from the 40 years in the wilderness. Moses encourages the Israelites in their upcoming conquest of the land of Canaan (by the way, we don’t say KAY-nin; we say k’NAH-ahn).
Q/qs: (1) Why would God want children "who have no knowledge of good and evil" to inherit the promised land? Is ignorance better than knowledge? Is knowledge of good and evil necessary to make good choices? Why or why not?
(2) God tells the Israelites when God will fight for them and when God will not fight for them. How would you determine whether (and if so, when) God (or substitute your preferred word here) fights for you? What would (or does) it look like?
(3) Can you tell when God (or substitute your preferred word here) is fighting for you and when God is not fighting for you? How?

One nice thing about the ProBoards is you don't have to copy the questions in order to respond.
1) I would ask a similar question regarding Joseph Smith, our founding prophet. Why would God choose an unlearned farm boy to be His chosen instrument to restore the gospel? Answer: He was teachable! The ancient Israelites "who have no knowledge of good and evil" were potentially teachable. Ignorance is not better than knowledge, but spiritual knowledge is better than worldly knowledge. The Israelites had knowledge of the worldly pursuits of the Egyptians but lacked the spiritual knowledge to make good choices. Adam and Eve partook of the tree of "knowledge of good and evil" in order to become mortal and learn how to make good choices under adverse circumstances as we all must pass through the refiner's fire in one way or another.
2) I was just reading today in the Book of Mormon in Alma 48 about how/when God would fight for the Nephites:
15 And this was their faith, that by so doing God would prosper them in the land, or in other words, if they were faithful in keeping the commandments of God that he would prosper them in the land; yea, warn them to flee, or to prepare for war, according to their danger;
16 And also, that God would make it known unto them whither they should go to defend themselves against their enemies, and by so doing, the Lord would deliver them; and this was the faith of Moroni, and his heart did glory in it; not in the shedding of blood but in doing good, in preserving his people, yea, in keeping the commandments of God, yea, and resisting iniquity.
17 Yea, verily, verily I say unto you, if all men had been, and were, and ever would be, like unto Moroni, behold, the very powers of hell would have been shaken forever; yea, the devil would never have power over the hearts of the children of men.
My answer is God will fight for me when I am striving to keep the commandments of God.
3) Actually, I believe God is always fighting for me in one way or another, but it does become more manifest to me when I am trying to live righteously.

Christina, so sorry you're feeling low. Please let us know how we can be supportive of you. I'm sure telling you something like, "Chin up, you'll do better" is not going to work today, but perhaps something may be encouraging for you. Please call on our support. We're here for you (right, Gary? Nora? Cynthia? anyone else?).

Of course, Christina. We are here to support each other. Feel free to talk about it if it helps. Speaking of old pictures, the only pictures I seem to be able to post here for my avatar are old pictures. The newer color photos taken diligently by my sister are too big (too many pixels) for this forum, so I posted a baby picture!

Thanks Holly and Gary just reading your messages felt well.... Nice. I feel easily overwhelmed lately. I used to be able to handle "anything". Having my mother in our home has been a blessing in many ways but also very very tiring. Meanwhile I am not following WW despite the fact that I keep paying for it! I cant seem to " get it together" so to speak. My weight is going up and my self esteem down. Thanks for giving me a place to get this off my chest.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Christina

I too am paying for Weight Watchers but not watching my weight. My self-esteem is also way down because of the difficulties with my gf. We are e-mailing and texting but I haven't talked to her in 3 weeks. When she gets hurt/offended I basically have to wait for her to come around to where she is comfortable talking to me; calling her would just make things worse until she is ready to talk. It is really better now, but we aren't "there" yet. Besides, the heat and humidity is literally making her sick.
